Please listen to the following message from Pastor Tom Buck on his position regarding politics and the pulpit.
Some of the main points from this message:
- The Gospel message must always be first!
- If we as Christians invested as much time and money into the furthering of God’s Kingdom as we did politics and legislation, we could probably have a much greater impact on our nation!
- A pastor should not endorse a specific candidate ("hitching our wagon") from the pulpit because that candidate is an imperfect person who will make mistakes and will not always share the same views on everything.
- "Those who say we can seperate religion and politics don’t understand either very well!"
- When voting, one must vote their values from the Word of God and be foremost concerned with moral and ethical issues, not personal (usually financial) gain.
- The specific issues: We must vote for leaders who will protect the life of the unborn and the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman!
- Our primary allegience is to Christ’s Kingdom. Under that is allegience to our nation.
- Again, if we are preaching the Gospel, furthering the Kingdom of Christ, and praying for our nation, then the Holy Spirit can lead on the leaders’ hearts to make wise and responsible decisions if it is the will of God.
- "Let us be people who vote for truth."
